As we near the end of July, I’m starting to get a little panicky as I realize I need to start pitching.
Because it’s almost time to start pitching!
As any new freelancer can tell you, pitching is perhaps the scariest part of being a freelance writer.
If you’ve been following my blog, then you know that I believe in developing a plan and then tackling the goals that will help you achieve those goals one at a time. For building my freelance career, I’ve decided to take each goal one month at a time.
So, what have you been doing?
May was spent researching what it took to become a freelance writer. June was spent building my online platform. And July was spent trying to get samples for my portfolio. Though I would love to have more samples to add to my portfolio, I think it’s enough for now. In addition to building up my portfolio, I’ve also been trying to grow my social media presence.
But now, July is almost over. And you know what the goal for August is, right?
That’s right! It’s time to start pitching my pretty, little butt off! August is the month that I’m going after clients for pay.
Now, I’m not expecting a ton of jobs to come my way. I’m not even really trying to get hired right now. My main focus is to just pitch. I’m going to use all of August to send out pitches and figure out methodologies that will improve my pitch, to understand what clients are looking for, and coming up methods to help keep everything organized.
If I get a job along the way, that’s great. But right now, I know I need to get better at pitching. And that’s my goal. By the end of August, I want to start September as a pitching expert.
Move over, Carol Tice! There’s a new expert preparing to enter town! (I’m joking. It’s a joke!)
